AweLab collaborated with Innards and Upwards artist, Alison Pebworth, SFAC and Recology to invite participants to design a cabinet of wonders of their own using artifacts and mementos from the cultural past.
Ready-to-design small boxes and cabinets (i.e. shoe box size) are provided to participants as well as basic crafting materials like kid-friendly glue and scissors.
For this program, Pebworth returned to Recology SF to source a sampling of recycled materials for participants to incorporate into collaged creations.
The afternoon culminates in a collective Wunderkammer before everyone takes his or her own piece home.
Looking inside of the new Cabinets of Wonders
Inspired by Alison Pebworth’s installation on view at the SFAC Main Gallery, attendees were invited to create a small-scale cabinet of wonders. Innards and Upwards was originally created while Pebworth was in residence at the Recology San Francisco Artist in Residence Program.

AweLab is an exhibition at the StoreFrontLab gallery, featuring artwork by Alice Shaw and Alison Pebworth, and exploring how artists employ "awe" as a tool for inspiration and generation, and as a community-centered approach to life.

Through curated installations, salons and workshops, AweLab is interested in the potential for art and design to transform individual and collective lives, and contribute to the greater good.
